What is the Japan Alps Cycling Road?
The Japan Alps Cycling Road is a bike route proposed by us, the Japan Alps Cycling Project. It’s the kind of course cyclists the world over dream about – flying past rice fields, grinding up the mountains, and logging mile after mile. The Road we envision is 360 degrees around Nagano Prefecture, a loop that captures the best and purest elements of Nagano.
The vast spaces and undulating climbs are uniquely Nagano – and will be breathtaking for both its beauty and challenge. Mountainous as we are, you’ll find no shortage of opportunities to rise above the clouds, into thin air, and be treated to spectacular vantage points that overlook the Japan Alps. Cyclists will feel liberated breezing past the highland areas and plateaus that dramatically highlight seasonal foliage throughout the year. Need a breather? Take a break amidst the undisturbed peace of the lakes, or dive into educational and cultural experiences with a visit to historical sites.
